Turkish Crimea Medal, Private Issue, marked J.B., of superior detail and craftsmanship than other examples.
This unusual and most attractive example of the Turkish Crimea Medal, with the die being drawn by the unknown artist “J. B.” adds much interesting detail to the usually poorer quality and less detailed striking of the “Sardinian issue” of the period.
It was believed to have been retailed by Hunt and Roskell who assembled the official Crimean War Medals, as a premium product usually seen in group to Officers, fitted with swivelling ring suspension, the usual suspension seen on this type of the Turkish Crimea.
There was also a large delay on getting the original medals out to those who earned them, as many of the original “Sardinian” examples went down at sea on the way to being delivered.
The medal is also fitted with a bespoke pin brooch made to fit the official narrow ribbon that the medal was issued with.
