Description

Turkish Crimea Medal, Sardinian Issue, attractively engraved in contemporary style: “3160 Sergt F. Kennedy 55th Regt.”

 

Sergeant Ferdinand Kennedy was severely wounded in the final storming on the Redan on 8th September 1855 as a Corporal in the 55th Foot by Grape Shot to his right thigh.

 

Entitled to a Crimea Medal, bar Sebastopol & Army L.S. & G.C. Medal.

 

Ferdinand Kennedy was born in Portumna, Galway, Ireland. He was 18 years old when he enlisted for service with the 55th Regiment on 3rd March 1854.

 

He was already promoted to corporal on 11th June 1855, becoming Sergeant on 24th January 1856.
Appointed as Hospital Sergeant on 8th December 1858, he reverted to sergeant from 12th October 1859 until 30th June 1863.
On 14th July 1863 he was appointed 3rd Class Staff Clerk.
He continued his service until 18th May 1875 when he was discharged having served 21 years.
