Daniel Richard New, was born in Chertsey, Surrey on 7th August 1893, to William New and Emily (Beach).

 

He lived around Surrey for most of his life.

 

With WW1, he saw service with the 1/6th East Surrey Regiment first as a Corporal then being advanced to Sergeant.

 

The 6th East Surreys saw unusual field service during WW1.

 

They were drafted at the start of the war and embarked for India in October 1914. Serving 2 years in the United Provinces and the Punjab.
Two drafts later went on to Mesopotamia where many suffered in the disastrous defeat at Kut Al Amara.
In February 1917, the 1st/6th E. Surreys left India for a 12 month tour of duty with the Aden Field Force.
They saw further service in Aden and near the end of the war served on internal security duties in Agra, returning to England in 1919.

 

His WW1 Pair records that unusually he was at one time attached to the Meerut Division Supply & Transport Corps.

 

He died in April 1979 in Mid Eastern Surrey.
