From 1894 until 1962, Uganda was a Protectorate of the British Empire, after 68 years they gained their Independence on 9th October 1962, becoming a Republic.
The immediate effects of the newly independent country led to various power struggles, by January 1971 the country was taken over in a Military Coup by the infamous dictator Idi Amin.
