Vietnam Medal, Australian Issue, Kevin Michael Greer, A Lance-Corporal who served two tours of Vietnam, he was born 06/05/1946, from Newcastle, New South Wales, he first served in Vietnam with 7th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment, from 18/04/1967 to 24/04/1968, then he returned with the 1st Squadron, Special Air Service, S.A.S.

 

The 1st Squadron SAS began their second tour in Vietnam on 18/02/1970, they began patrolling the approaches to the Nui May Tao mountains, then were inserted into Binh Tuy Province and to conduct other long-range patrols during March and April. At the end of August durig September they participated in Operations Chung Chung II and III.
Then in January 1971 the patrols continued to be inserted deep into Binh Tuy province. The squadron had its last contact on 4th February when a New Zealand patrol killed two VC north-west of Thua Tich. The Australian S.A.S. had the highest kill ratio of the units, the Australian and New Zealand SAS killed at least 492 and as many as 598 and losing only two men killed in action and three fatalities from friendly fire.
