King George V’s Ireland Visit Police Commemoration Medal 1911, aka the Visit to Ireland Medal, unnamed as issued.

 

A scarce medal awarded to Irish Recipients, only about 2,477 medals were issued in total.

 

During King George V’s coronation year of 1911, he made a visit to Ireland during July 1911, where he stayed in Dublin, during this time he attended a number of official ceremonies in celebration of his Coronation and was driven through the city in an open carriage.

 

During the events this scarce medal was only awarded to those members of the Royal Irish Constbulary and Dublin Metropolitan Police who were on duty during the King’s engagements.

 

Also some were issued to members of the Civil Service Staffs of both of the Police Forces on duty at Dublin Castle during the King’s visit. As well as a few to the Dublin St Johns Ambulance Brigade, the Kingstown Harbour Police Force and local Parks Constabularies.
