Description
Waterloo Medal 1815, Thomas Cross, 3rd Battalion Grenadier Guards, discharged after the battle from a fractured leg by gunshot.
Thomas Cross was born in the town of Brandon, Thetford, Suffolk.
He enlisted for service with the 1st Grenadier Regiment of Foot Guards on 26th September 1808.
During the battle of Waterloo he was present with Lieut Colonel The Hon J.H. Stanhope’s Company, and was wounded in action, suffering a fractured leg from a gunshot wound.
The total casualties for the 3rd Battalion Grenadier Guards were very heavy from Quatre Bras and Waterloo, by the end of the battles they had suffered 604 casualties out of 1021 men, 59% of their number.
He was medically discharged as no longer fit on 16th February 1816.
Following his discharge he returned home to the small town of Brandon in Thetford, and was still alive as of the 1861 census.
