Description

1939-45 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, War Medal, African General Service Medal, bar Kenya, Army LSGC, EIIR, bar Regular Army, 841412 Sergeant Hubert Smith, Royal Engineers, former Royal Artillery.

 

Modern display mounting with velcro on reverse, some sticker marking to reverse of 2 campaign stars.

 

AGS Kenya officially impressed: “841412 Sgt. H. Smith. R.E.” Very slight official correction only to 2 at end of service number.
Army LS GC officially impressed: “841412 Sgt. H. Smith R.E.”

 

Hubert Smith first attested for service with the Royal Artillery circa 1934.

 

On 10th December 1936 he was discharged to the Territorial Army Reserve, citing Para 199 (6a).

 

When the war began he re enlisted with the Royal Artillery on 1st December 1939, being assigned to Coast Defence, Anti Aircraft duties.

 

Shown as re-enlisting again on 8th March 1944, now with the Royal Engineers.

 

This was shortly before the invasion of Normandy on 6th June 1944, so judging from his stars he was posted overseas landing in France from 1944-5.

 

He continued his service with the Army after the war, taking part in the “Mau-Mau” Rebellion in the early 1950s.
