Cadet Forces Medal, GVI, Flying Officer Arthur Norman Shelley Ranson BA, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve Training Branch, former Deputy Headmaster of Cadoxton School.

 

Engraved naming: “Fg Off. A.N.S. Ranson. R.A.F.V.R. (T)”

 

Arthur Norman Shelley Ranson was born during 1907 in Cardiff, Glamorganshire, Wales.

 

He was educated at Aberystwyth College, during this time he played Football for the College and is noted in the Western Mail of 23rd February 1928 as having taken part in a 2-1 victory over Cardiff College. In the 1928-9 season Aberystwyth University College also played for the Wales Cup.

 

During 1931 he graduated with a BA in English. Western Mail 29th June 1931.

 

Following his graduation he went into Teaching and moved to Great Yarmouth to work at Flegg School.

 

During the war he received a commission in the London Gazette on 28th March 1941, service number 61803

 

Commission Terminated as Flying Officer in London Gazette 8th March 1949.
Supplement to the London Gazette 6th April 1954, shows him as having his commission extended with the RAFVR Training Branch as of 9th March 1954 for another 2 years.

 

Barry and District News, 6th August 2009: “Extracts from the barry and District News of August 6, 1959:

 

A Party of over 30 boys from Cadoxton School, led by Mr A N S Ranson, BA, Deputy Headmaster, who were joined by a party from Gladstone Secondary School, led by Mr G Tudor, paid an eight day visit to Guersney, returning on Tuesday Week.”

 

He died aged 70 in Swansea, during 1977.
