Description

Canada General Service Medal, bar Fenian Raid 1866, 1092 Private Edward Silvester, 1st Battalion Rifle Brigade. Scarce to a British Unit that served during the period in Canada.

Officially impressed in usual Canadian style: “1092. Pte. E. Silvester 1st Bn. R.B.”

Very good and crisp condition, as it took so many years after the medal was earned for the medal to be instituted and awarded.

Edward was awarded his long overdue recognition for his service in Canada circa 1901.

According to the original hand written Canadian Rolls, he had attempted to also sneak in a claim for the further Fenian Raid 1870 clasp, but this was not verified so he was issued with the single clasp medal.

The roll notes he served “1866 at Quebec” and “July 1870 at Siphas(?)”, but the latter was not verified by the Government.

He is further noted on the 1871 Worldwide Army Index stationed at Woolwich with the 1st Battalion Rifle Brigade.
