The 30th Regiment of Punjab Infantry or “30th Punjabis” began in 1857 and still exists in the Pakistan Army as the 13th battalion of the “Punjab Regiment”.

Coming into the war they were known as the 30th (Punjab) Regiment of Bengal Infantry, before becoming the 30th Punjab Infantry during 1901 and after the 1903 Indian Army reformations, the 30th Punjabis.

During the war the 30th Punjabis formed part of the “2nd Brigade” Under Command of Brigadier General O’Moore Creagh, V.C.

It consisted of:

“2nd Rajput Regiment of Bengal Infantry

14th Sikh Regiment of Bengal Infantry

1st Battalion, 4th Gurkha Rifles

30th Regiment of Bombay Infantry (3rd Baluch Battalion)

Two Native Field Hospitals

1 Supply Column.”

The 30th Punjabis would also take part in the Military Parade on 21st September for Field Marshal Count von Waldersee when he reached Shanghai.
