Crimea Medal, Alma, Inkermann, Sebastopol, Gunner and Driver John Vallins, Royal Artillery. Officially impressed posthumous issue, died during the war. 

 

Officially impressed: “J. Vallins. Gr & Dr Rl Arty.”

 

Confirmed on the medal roll, which notes that the medal was issued officially impressed and assembled by the War Office.

 

Gunner Vallins died on service, from Fever on 18th December 1854.

 

During the Crimean War, Gunner and Driver John Vallins, served with Major G. Shaw’s 2nd Company, 12th Battalion Royal Artillery, when he died during the siege of Sebastopol.

 

He took part in the Battle of Alma on 20th September 1854, followed by the Battle of Inkermann on 5th November 1854.

 

These clasps were earned according to the medal roll with No 1 Company, 12th Battalion, Royal Artillery.

 

Soon afterwards during the Siege of Sebastopol during the perilous Russian Winter, he fell to fever.

 

His commanding Officer was Colonel George Shaw CB, who at the time was a Captain commanding a Company.
