Davison’s Trafalgar Medal, 1805, made by Thomas Halliday for the crew of Lord Nelson’s Ship HMS Victory. Pewter with copper rim and split ring suspension loop.

 

Produced by Thomas Halliday, with his marking reading “HALLIDAY FECIT” Latin for Made by Halliday.
At the time Thomas Halliday was an up and coming young medal maker who was employed by Matthew Boulton’s Soho Mint.

 

These unusual and rare medals are believed to have been produced circa 1806 by Thomas Halliday, to be worn during the Funeral Procession of Admiral Nelson.

 

A period correspondence which is cited in various sources from the period, including “The Pursuit of Victory, the Life and Achivement of Horatio Nelson by Roger Knight, 2006.

The letter sent by Able Seaman John Brown a 25 year old Pressed sailor sent from the Victory reads:
