DCM officially impressed: “17902 Sjt A. Chaplin. R.F.A.” Neat official correction to beginning of surname.

WW1 Pair officially impressed: “17902 Sjt A. Chaplin. R.A.”

 

Also with original silk uniform ribbon bar for the 3 medals, the Pair with original silk ribbons.

 

Distinguished Conduct Medal announced in the London Gazette 11th March 1920, earned whilst serving with B Battery, 296th N. Midland Brigade Territorial Force, Royal Field Artillery with the following citation:

 

“On the 7th August 1918 the Battery was in action in the Nieppe Forest and was subjected to a heavy mustard gas bombardment which caused many casualties. 

Although gassed he was the only one who remained at his post and refused to be sent away. He inspired all ranks by his determination and courage.”

 

Arthur Chaplin came from Okehampton, Devon, according to his London Gazette entry.
