General Service Medal, GVI, bar Palestine, 1939-45 Star, WW2 War and Defence Medals, 2718769 Guardsman David St Paul McReavie, Irish Guards. 

 

GSM officially impressed: “2718769 Gdsmn D. Mc Reavie. I. Gds.”

 

GSM in excellent toned condition, barely worn.

 

David St Paul McReavie, was born in Belfast, Ireland during 1918.

 

Confirmed on the medal roll of the Irish Guards, for service in Palestine during 1936-39.

 

The roll was written in Wellington Barracks in London, after they arrived home in December 1939.

 

“They (The Irish Guards) were based in the south of England until 1936 when they deployed to Egypt. While stationed there, the regiment deployed to Palestine for a number of months on internal Security Duties against Arab Militants.”

 

Not long after returning the 1st Bn Irish Guards were sent on an usual war posting when they sailed for Narvik, Norway in April 1940.

This service would earn them later in 2013 the award of the “Arctic Star’ as one of the few British Army Regiments to earn the star.

 

 

During the war he married Joan Carruthers (or Stringer), in Croydon, Surrey, during late 1943.

 

He remained in England, after his service and later died during August 1988 in Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset.
