India General Service Medal 1854, bar Hazara 1888, 461 Pte Charles Gibbons, Suffolk Regiment, local man from Sudbury, Suffolk.

 

Officially engraved in running script: “461 Pte C. Gibbons. 1st Bn Suff R.”

 

Confirmed on the roll, only medal entitlement.
With copy service papers.

Charles Gibbons was born in the Parish of Great Cornard, Sudbury, Suffolk circa 1866.

 

He attested for service with his local Suffolk Regiment at Bury St Edmunds on 14th February 1883.
He was a 19 year old Labourer, joining from the 3rd Militia Battalion of the Suffolk Regiment.
This was not entirely true, according to local Birth records in Sudbury, he was born during 1866, which would have made him about 17 years old.
