Imperial Service Medal, GV, 1911-1920 Star Shape, James Charles Jacobs, Plan Examiner, Publication Division, Ordnance Survey in Southampton. 

 

Officially engraved to reverse: “James C. Jacobs”

 

Announced in the London Gazette, 8th October 1915.

 

James Charles Jacobs was born during 1855 in Mottistone, Isle of Wight, Hampshire.

 

He spent most of his live around Hampshire, in the employment of the Ordnance Survey.

 

The Ordnance Sruvey is the national mapping agency for Great Britain, whose headquarters are in Southampton.

 

1891 Census, records him as a Boarder in Southampton, 36 year old Surveyor for the Ordnance Survey.

 

In 1893 he married Amelia Fanny.

 

1901 Census records him living on of all streets “34 Ordnance Road” in Southampton, with his wife Amelia Fanny Jacobs and 2 children.

Working as a “Civil Assistant O.S.O.”

 

1911 Census records 56 year old Civil Service Ordnance Survey, living in All Saints, Hampshire.

 

1921 Census records him finally retired, 66 year old “Plan Examiner Ordnance Survey, Retired”.

 

He died in Southampton during 1932.
