Description

Kabul to Kandahar Star, 1878-80, 508 Private William Cuerton, 2nd Bn 60th Foot, the KRRC Rifles, veteran of the Afghanistan 1878-80 and Egypt 1882 wars. 

 

Officially embossed on reverse: “508 PRIVATE W. CUERTON 2/60 FOOT”

 

Additionally entitled to the Afghanistan War Medal 1878-80, with 2 clasps, for Ahmed Khel and Kandahar.

 

As well as the Egypt 1882 Medal and the Khedive’s Bronze Star.

 

The Khedives Star roll dated 9th April 1883, states he was at the time with the Army Reserve having completed his service.

 

“Roll of Men entitled to the Bronze Star granted by his highness the Khedive of Egypt, in recognition of the Egyptian Campaign, 1882, and which her Majesty the Queen has authorised them to accept and wear.”

 

 

An unusual name to find in England with this spelling, he should be:

 

Mr William Cuerton, born during 1856, and died many years later at the age of 82, on 27th August 1938, being buried in a Grimsby Cemetery, on Scartho Road.
