Description

Khedive’s Star, dated 1882, engraved on reverse to 1717 Pte B. Wynne, 1st Bn Seaforth Highlanders.

Reverse hand engraved with recipient details, lower arm reads service number “1717” and the reverse reads: “Pte B. Wynne 1/Sea: Hrs.”

Confirmed on the medal roll, which notes that Bernard Wynne was present at Tel-el-Kebir, so should be entitled to an Egypt Medal, dated 1882 on reverse with the clasp for Tel-el-Kebir.

He is recorded earlier on the 1871 Army Census with the 72nd Duke of Albany’s Own Highlanders, stationed in Umballa India, prior to the name change to the Seaforth Highlanders.

Recipient appears to be Bernard Wynne, born 1845 in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.

He is present on the 1851 and 1861 Census, then missing from the 1871 one, as he would be in the Army in India at the time.

Returns to the census in 1891, lining up with having also missed the 1881 Census whilst also on service.

1891 records him as a Hammerman in Edinburgh, with his wife Jessie, a Laundress from Edinburgh and his younger brother Joseph Wynne.
