Khedive’s Sudan Medal, 2nd Type, 1918 onwards, Sultan Hussain Kamil Obverse. Unnamed as issued.
2nd Type which bears the name of Sultan Hussain Kamil or Kamel, fixed suspension. Circa 1918-1922 issue.
Replacing the 1st Type with that of the new Sultan Kamil, who had gained the throne in 1914, however he died around the same time the medal was being issued, they did not appear to wish to redesign the medal once again for the new Sultan Fuad I upon his accession during 1917.
This service medal was awarded in between the previous Khedive’ Sudan Medal (1897-1908) and the Sudan Defence Force General Service Medal (instituted 1933).
Awarded for operations in Sudan to members of the Egyptian Army, including the Sudanese Battalion.
Recipients could also include British Army Officers and Men who had been seconded to the Egyptian Army in the period.
