King’s South Africa, 2 bars, SA 1901, SA 1902, 47 Sapper Henry Mack, Royal Engineers. 

 

Officially impressed: “47 Sapr H. Mack R.E.”

 

Confirmed on the medal roll of 6th Company Royal Engineers.

 

Unusually low service number.

 

Earned his matching QSA also with 6th Co R.E., with the clasps for Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal.

 

Henry Mack was born in Colchester, Kent, and signed on at 19 years old with the Connaught Rangers, following his previous service in the 5th Militia Bn of the Royal Munster Fusiliers in March 1896.

 

Transferred over to the Royal Engineers early on into his career on 1st May 1896.

 

Saw the following service:

Home, 27th March 1896 – 12th Dec 1897

Gibraltar, 13th Dec 1897 – 17th Nov 1899

South Africa, 18th Nov 1899 – 27th Sept 1902

Home, 28th Sept 1902 – 26th March 1908.

 

Multiple District Court Martials, 28th march 1898, sentenced to 56 days of hard labour and prison.

 

Again on 18th July 1898, for 84 days of hard labour and prison.

 

Also during the war on 2nd July 1900, 10 days by his Commanding Officer.

 

And later again on 4th August 1905 for “False answer on his attestation”, sentence 28 days.
