King’s South Africa Medal, 2 bars, SA 1901, SA 1902, 1328 Private John Breen, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.

Officially impressed: “1328 Pte J. Breen. Innis: Fus:”

 

Entitled to a matching Queen’s South Africa Medal, bars for Natal, Belfast and Orange Free State.

With copy Militia Service papers.

 

Private John Breen was born in Cleenish, Enniskellen, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland circa 1878.

First attested for 6 years of Militia Service locally at Fermanagh on 29th September 1897.

He was embodied on 5th December 1899 and enlisted with the Militia Reserve on 8th March 1900.

His papers then state he “Joined the Special Service Section of the Militia on 8th of March 1900 for service abroad with the Regular Forces.”

Posted for service with 1st Battalion on 16th May 1900.

Later joined the 3rd Battalion Inniskilling Fusiliers on 14th July 1902.

Rewarded his South African War Gratuity in August 1902.

Discharged, time expired having completed 6 years Militia Service on 28th September 1903.
