King’s South Africa Medal, 2 bars, SA 1901, SA 1902, 2338 Sergeant Charles Parker, North Staffordshire Regiment. A local man from Lougton Stafford.

 

Officially impressed: “2338 Sergt C. Parker. N. Stafford: Regt”
Medal with edge bruising and general wear.

 

With copy service records.

 

Charles Parker was born in Longton, Stafford during 1869.
Attested for service at Lichfield with the North Staffordshire Regiment on 19th March 1887, aged 18 years 10 months, a Collier by trade.
He had been serving win the 3rd North Stafford Regt Militia.

 

He we would go on to see a relatively uneventful 12 years terms of engagement from 16th March 1887 until 15th March 1899.

 

However on 8th July 1889 he was tried by a R.C.M. Regimental Court Martial for having allowed a Prisoner to esacpe from their sentence, he was himself sentenced to 28 days, with 20 days being remitted.

 

However he would soon after, having already finished his time with the Army Reserve be amongst those “Emergency Recalled” for the Boer War.

 

Having been a Corporal in the Army Reserves, he rejoined and was soon after reaching South Africa promoted to Sergeant on 6th July 1900.

 

Saw following services:

 

Home, 5th April 1899 – 13th January 1900
South Africa, 4th January 1900 – 7th January 1901, with 2nd Battalion
Home, 8th January 1901 – 8th April 1902, served with the 4th Battalion at home.
South Africa, 9th April 1902 – 29th July 1902. Returned with 2nd Battalion.
