John Benjamin Stacey Mitchell was born in Okehampton, Devonport, Devon, during 1847.

Attested for service on 3rd November 1869 aged 22, having worked as a Smith and Fitter.

 

At the time he managed to claim an enlistment bounty of £2 and a free kit.

 

He saw service at Home from 5th November 1869 until 5th November 1890, service totalling 21 years and 1 day before his discharge.

 

He earned this medal circa 1888.
