New Zealand War Medal, undated reverse, 4118 Pte Edward McSherry, 68th Regiment of Foot, the Durham Light Infantry.

 

Officially impressed: “4118 E. McSherry 68th Regt.”

 

Edward McSherry is shown on the medal roll as having served in New Zealand from 18th January 1864 – 13th March 1866.

 

Edward McSherry was born crica 1827 in the small parish of Seagoe, Lurgan, now Portadown, County Armagh, Northern Ireland.

 

He attested for service on 25th June 1855 and served until 18th June 1866, following his arrival home from New Zealand, having claimed his discharge following the end of his limited terms of engagement.

 

He saw the following overseas service: Malta, 5 months, Ionian Islans 1 Year 1 Month, East Indies 5 Years 8 Months and 2 Years 5 Months in New Zealand.
