Description

General Service Medal, bar Palestine 1945-48, Sister E. Duncan, Q.A.I.M.N.S. A Commissioned Nursing Officer the equivalent of a Lieutenant. Officially impressed: “Sister E. Duncan. Q.A.I.M.N.S.” Scarce to a Woman Officer. 

 

In original labelled card box of issue, including the paper packet, the medal unworn. Confirmed on the medal roll, which records Sister Duncan serving at the British Military Hospital in Haifa, under Acting matron McGearry. 

 

She had also seen service at the British Military Hospital Bir Ya’Acov, under Principal Matron C.J. Haycock ARRC. Miss Elsie Duncan, first received her commission as a Sister into the Queen Alexandra’s Imperial Military Nursing Service Reserve, on 22nd October 1945, with service number 356095. 

 

The 1939 Register records a Miss Elsie Duncan, born 2nd June 1907, a single Female Officer in the Nursing Auxiliary, with the civilian role of Civil Nursing Reserve. 

 

She lived at the West Hospital Nurses Ho,e in Page Street, City of Westminster, Westminster Abbey.
