Military Medal, 1914-15 Star Trio, L15050 Private Thomas Henry Bonner, No 1 Special Company, Middlesex Regiment, Murmansk Command award for North Russia.

 

Announced in the 2nd Supplement to the London Gazette, 2nd January 1920, under the heading of Murmansk Command, “Award of the Military Medal to the under-mentioned non-commissioned Officers and Men, for bravery in the Field with the British Forces in North Russia.”

 

MM off impressed: “15050 Pte T.H. Bonner Middx R.”
Star off impressed: “L-15050 Pte T.H. Bonner. Middx R.”
BWM off impressed: “L-15050 Pte T.H. Bonnor. Midd’x R.” Note spelling of surname (Medal roll records BWM issued to Bonnor and Victory to Bonner)
Victory off impressed: “L-15050 Pte T.H. Bonner. Midd’x R.”

The services of the 2 Special Companies of the Middlesex Regiment and King’s Royal Rifle Corps is recounted in detail in “Chuchill’s Secret War with Lenin” by Damien Wright.

 

First entered into France on 27th December 1914.

 

Medals rolls note, but struck through that he was “Convicted of Desertion 8th March 1916.”

 

The main British Infantry present with this force was only made up of a “Special Company” of both the Middlesex Regiment and the King’s Royal Rifle Corps.
