Queen’s South Africa Medal, 2 bars, Wittebergen, Cape Colony, 3326 Pte J. Raybould, 1st Bn South Staffordshire Regiment.

 

Officially impressed: “3326 Pte. J. Raybould. S. Stafford: Regt” One edge bruise about 7 o’clock.

 

Entitled to the Transvaal bar, mentioned on an additional medal roll so likely sent loose after issue.

 

Also earned the King’s South Africa medal with 2 bars.

 

John Raybould, born circa 1874 in Stourbridge, Worcestershire.

 

Attested for service at the age of 18 on 7th March 1892, having been a member of the 3rd Battalion Worcester Regiment of Militia.

 

Saw the following service over 12 years:

 

Home, 2nd March 1892 – 16th March 1900
South Africa, 17th March 1900 – 21st July 1902
Home, 1st August 1902 – 1st March 1904.

 

Served with 1st Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment throughout the Boer War.
