Queen’s South Africa, 2 bars, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, 9752 Private George Smith, 3rd Militia Battalion East Lancashire Regiment, a local from Bolton. 

 

Officially impressed: “9752 Pte G. Smith, E. Lanc: Regt”

 

With Militia service papers.

 

During the Boer War, George Smith served in South After after his Militia Battalion was mobilised for active service.

 

George Smith, was born circa 1881 in St Thomas, Bolton, Lancashire.

 

He joined the Militia of the East Lancashire Regiment on 31st August 1899 aged 18.

 

During the war, he died of Enteric Fever at Springfontein on 2nd June 1900.
