QSA officially impressed: “4596 Pte F.C. Treadwell. 1st L.N. Lanc Regt”

KSA officially impressed: “4596 Pte J. Treadwell. L. N. Lanc. Regt” note difference in initial, the original hand written medal roll reads “F. Treadwell” easily mistaken for a J.

A scarce full trio to a British Regiment who took part in the Defence of Kimberley.

One of 436 men present in the Siege from his regiment, out of about 5,458, the only British Regiment present, excluding a small number of Royal Artillery, Engineers, Army Service Corps and odd men etc.

Mr Francis Charles Treadwell, was born circa 1876 in Thame, Oxford, Oxfordshire.

He was the son of James and Rose Teadwell from Shirburn, Thame, Oxfordshire.

He saw the following service from 1894 – 1906

Home, 3rd Sept 1894 – 23rd Jan 1896

Ceylon, 24th Jan 1896 – 10th Feb 1899

South Africa, 11th Feb 1899 – 22nd Sept 1902

Home, 23rd Sept 1902 – 2nd Sept 1906.

With his discharge he settled in Battersea, London. Where he lived with his wife Eliza Alice Treadwell and a number of children. In 1921 he worked as Carman for the Gas Light and Coke Company, Nine Elms Station.
