Queen’s South Africa Medal, 2 bars, Relief of Ladysmith, Paardeberg, 3043 Corporal William John Good, Welsh Regiment, attached Mounted Infantry.

 

Officially impressed in large lettering an early issue with visible ghost dates: “3043 Corl W. Good Welsh Regt” Confirmed on the medal roll, and with copy service papers.

Medal remarks note: “To the MI (Mounted Infantry) at Reusburg”

His papers recall receiving a Mounted Infantry Certificate on 28th July 1894.

 

Born in Stratford Upon Avon, Warwickshire. Growing up at Langley Farm Cottages in Old Stratford.

Son of Mary Ann Good of Stratford.

Just before leaving for South Africa, he married Mary Ann Hancox at New Mulverton, Warwick on 7th Oct 1899.

 

Attested for service as a 19 year old Parcel Porter at Cardiff for the Welsh Regiment on 20th July 1891.

Returned home from South Africa, 30th June 1900 “Discharged having been found medically unfit for further service” on 30th June 1901 as Corporal.
