Royal Naval Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, VR, Andrew Andrews, Boatman, H.M. Coast Guard. with copy service records. 

 

Officially engraved: “Andrew Andrews Boatman H.M. Coast Gd.”

 

Medal awarded 6th January 1877, later that year promoted to Commissioned Boatman in July 1877.

 

With copy service records.

 

Andrew Andrews, was born in Devizes, Wiltshire on 8th August 1838.

 

He signed on with the Royal Navy as a Stoker on HMS Hannibal, on 1st Feb 1858. Volunteering for 10 years on 16th October 1858.

HMS Hannibal, 1st Feb 1858 – 15 Feb 1859, appointed Stoker during this period.

HMS Revenge, Coast Guard, 27th July 1866 – 30th June 1873

HMS Caledonia, Coast Guard, 1st July 1873 – 31st March 1875.

Shore pensioned on 27th August 1888, having served 31 years in the Royal Navy.

 

Traced LSGC medal 6th January 1877.

 

With his retirement, shown on the 1891 census as a Navy Pensioner, with his wife Martha R. Andrews and son living in Alwington, Bideford, Devon, naturally he chose to retire right on the coast.

 

Also shown same place in 1911 Census.

 

He died there during 1912 on 30th September, and was buried in Alwington.
