1915 Star, British War Medal, Royal Naval Reserve Decoration, Captain William Gerald Byrne Jones RD, Royal Naval Reserve.

 

Captain William Gerald Byrne Jones, Royal Naval Reserve, was a career Sailor who first started off with the White Star Line during 1908, and became Second Mate in 1901, held his Master Certificate since 1907.
He had an almost interrupted record until his retirement in 1934, only resigning his commission briefly in 1910 to do his RNR training, and when he was called up for War in September 1914 until.

 

His White Star Line Service Records record every single ship posting of almost 30 years at sea.

Victory Medal missing, with a matching silk ribbon bar.

 

William Gerald Byrne Jones, was born August 1882.
First joined the Royal Naval Reserve on 1st July 1909 as a Sub Lieutenant.
Promoted to Lieutenant on 6th August 1911.

 

During his initial appointment from April 1910 until 14th May 1911, he was commonly remarked on as a skilled Naval Officer.

 

“With sobriety, Diligence and Attention, Manners are Very Good, Recommended for training.”
They also commonly remark on his skill with the French language.

 

HMS Kent, Lieutenant, 16th September 1914 – 30th July 1916
Hyacinth by C in C, Lieut, 20th July 1916 – 19th March 1918
Acting Lieutenant Commmander, 19th March 1918
Victorious, Act Lt Commander, 21st January 1919 – 23rd February 1919.

 

Demobilised from active service on 23rd February 1919.

 

Promoted Lieutenant Commander, 6th August 1919.

 

Admiral Sir Murray Anderson, his Captain on the Hyacinth reports him as: “Satisfactory Above Average Extra Master’s Cert (a), Most Trustworthy, Zealous and Capable.”, February 1917
and November 1917: “Satisfactory above: Extra Masters Cert (b), Most Capable Able and Efficient”

 

He continued on after the war with the R.N.R. earning the Royal Naval Reserve Decoration on 6th August 1921.

 

Retiring due to Age with the Rank of Captain on 7th August 1932.

 

He died on 1st February 1941.
