Description
The Military Order of the Carabao Membership medal, with original old silk ribbon .
The Military Order of the Carabao was formed in 1900 by US officers stationed and who fought the so-called Philippine “insurrection” of Emilio Aguinaldo, the failed Filipino movement for independence after the Spanish-American War. It was characterized at the start by racist antipathy to the Filipinos after mutually-brutal four years of rebellion and counter-insurgency. It was also intended to satirize the pompous and pretentious Military Order of the Dragon.
