Waterloo Medal, 23rd May 1815, Samuel Allan, 23rd Regiment of Foot, the Royal Welsh (Welch) Fusiliers.

 

Officially impressed with stars: “*** SAM. ALLAN, 23rd. REGIMENT FOOT, R.W.F. ***”

 

Attractive condition for a Waterloo, slight edge bruising and general wear.

 

Slightly rusted old clip and contemporary split ring suspension.

 

Confirmed on the medal roll and shown as present on the pay list for 25th March to 24th June 1815.

 

The regiment saw significant service in a number of actions in the lead up to Waterloo from 1811 to 1814 in the Peninsular War.

 

At Waterloo they were present as part of Lt Col Hugh Mitchell’s 4th Brigade, 4th Infantry Division.
Samuel Allan served in Captain Farmer’s Company No 7.
