British War and Victory Medal, India General Service, GV, bar Afghanistan N.W.F. 1919, T2578 Private John Whitehead, 4th Battalion Queen’s Regiment. 

 

BWM and Victory officially impressed: “T-2578 Pte J. Whitehead. The Queen’s R.”

IGS officially impressed: “200972 Pte J. Whitehead. 4 Queen’s R.”

 

All 3 medals confirmed on medal index card.

 

WW1 medal rolls note that he served in the War with the 1/4th R.W.S., Queens Royal West Surrey Regiment.

 

During WW1, the 4th Queens were part of the Home Counties Division, and sent their Battalion to Bombay in December 1914.

Whilst they mostly served around India and the North West Frontier, they saw frequent mobilisations and earned the Battle Honour North West Frontier 1916-17.

They also sent some draft reinforcements to serve in other fronts and men from the 1/4th saw service in Mesopotamia.
