British War and Victory Medal, Bronze Memorial Plaque, Private Joseph Edward Page, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment the Beds and Herts, Killed in Action 22nd August 1918 

 

WW1 Pair officially impressed: “51049 Pte J.E. Page. Bedf. R.”

Memorial Plaque officially embossed: “JOSEPH EDWARD PAGE”

 

 

He was killed in action on 22nd August 1918 with the 1st Battalion Hertfordshire Regiment.

 

At the time of his death, the Regiment was fighting in the 1918 Battle of Albert, during the Second Battle of the Somme from 21st August.

 

On the 22nd August, he went missing in action and was never heard from again, being presumed dead he was declared as killed in action, as his body could not be located for burial, he is now commemorated on a Panel on the Vis-En-Artois Memorial.

 

 

Joseph was the son of Luther and Ellen Page, of Alciston, Sussex.

 

Joseph was born during 1899 in the Village of Hellingly near Upper Dicker, Sussex.

 

By the time of enlistment, he had been living in Storrington, and signed up for the Army at Worthing.
