Description

Africa General Service Medal, GV, bar Somaliland 1920, 3 Strecher Bearer Edi, 2nd Battalion King’s African Rifles. A rare clasp and unusual to this rank.

Officially impressed: “3 S.B. Edi. 2-K.A.R.”

Particularly good condition for this medal to an African recipient.

Confirmed on the medal roll as a member of “2 Company, 2nd King’s African Rifles.”

Rare to a medical role as only 3 Stretcher Bearers are on the medal roll for this unit who earned about 228 clasps.

A lot rarer than 6th KAR who had over 600 clasps issued.

An interesting and sought after clasp to the medal, notably a small contingent of the Royal Air Force, known as the Z Unit were posted over to Somaliland on HMS Ark Royal with some of their Airco DH9a Planes, to be used as an aerial bombing force during the campaign, one of the first implementations of this style of warfare after WW1, which would then be deployed across many conflicts in the region and in India during the inter war period.
