A very rare unnamed example of the DSM from the World War 1 Period. The medal was officially issued as unnamed when awarded to Foreign Recipients.
According to the Great War Medal Collectors Companion approximately 4000-5500 Distinguished Service Medals were issued for the war, but only about 53 awards were traced to the Foreign Navies, with 52 to the French Navy and 1 to the Russian Navy, however there are likely to be more awards not traced, but there were far less issued than the Military Medal and Distinguished Conduct Medal.
