Description

Egypt Medal, 1882, bar Tel el Kebir, India General Service Medal 1895, 3 bars, Punjab Frontier 1897-98, Samana 1897, Tirah 1897-98, Hospital Assistant Shaikh Abdul Razack, Indian Subordinate Medical Department.

A most unusual pair spanning many years of service.

Egypt officially engraved in running script: “3rd Class Hospl Asstt Shaik Abdool Ruzack Bo: Sub Medl Dept”

IGS officially engraving in running script: “55 Hosspt Asstt Sheik Abdul Razack I.S.M.D.”

Some minor official corrections as commonly seen, and some scraping near claw which does not affect the naming likely done many years ago to determine if the medal was silver when sold.

Both medals excellent examples of Indian Mint official engraving.

Provenance, ex DNW 21st June 2013, “Awards to the Indian Army from the collection of AM Shaw”.

In need of further research in Indian Records, but Thacker’s Indian Directory of 1918 recalls that the resident of the Nonami Pharmacy in Nagdevi Cross Lane, Mumbai, was a “Dr Abdul Razack, ISMD Retired”.
