An unusual pair for consecutive service in the Persian Gulf between 1986-1991.
The Gulf War Medal with no bar was awarded for 30 days continuous service in the middle East, in a defined area of operations, between 2nd August 1990 and 7th March 1991.
The rarely seen “Gulf” clasp to the General Service Medal was awarded for service between 17th November 1986 and 31st October 1988, and Mine countermeasures in the Persian Gulf up to 28th February 1989.
The Royal Navy’s permanent presence in the Persian Gulf during this period was named the “Armilla Patrol”
