Punjab Medal, 2 bars, Goojerat, Mooltan, Private Richard Brindley, 60th Rifles King’s Royal Rifle Corps, Died of Wounds at Delhi on 26th September 1857.

 

Officially impressed: “R. Brindley, 1st Bn 60th R. Rifles”

Some edge bruising and general wear between issue and his death.

 

This medal was probably with his kit during the assault on Delhi where he received a mortal wound.

 

Private Robert Brindley, served with the 60th Rifles with the service number 2644.

Having previously earned this medal for his participation in the Battle of Goojerat and the Siege of Mooltan during the Anglo-Sikh War of 1848-9.

He continued on to fight during the Indian Mutiny, where he took part in the Siege and Capture of Delhi.

 

The city was finally captured after a decisive assault lasting from 14th September as they entered and worked their way through, until 21st September 1857, when the entire city was finally captured. It appears during the fighting he received his mortal wound, as only a few days later he died of his wounds.

For his further services, his next of kin would have received his posthumous Indian Mutiny Medal, with bar Delhi.

 

According to the composition of the force that stormed Delhi, the 60th Rifles, totalling about 200 in number, preceded all the columns acting as advanced Skirmishers,
