Queen’s South Africa, 3 bars, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, 7964 Private C. Lauder, 3rd Bn Royal Scots and Trooper in the South African Constabulary. 

 

Officially impressed: “7964 Pte C. Lauder, Rl. Scots”

 

Confirmed on the medal roll.

Additionally entitled to the King’s South Africa Medal which would be named to the South African Constabulary.

 

During the Boer War, Militiaman Charles Lauder saw unusual service, having come over to South Africa with his local Militia Battalion of the Royal Scots, and choosing to then enlist with the South African Constabulary as a Trooper to see additional service.

 

Charles Lauder, was born in Leith, Midlothian, Scotland circa 1881.

 

Aged 17, he joined the Royal Scots Militia on 5th September 1899.

 

He served in the Boer War with the Royal Scots from 23rd March 1900 to 5th May 1902.

 

He then joined the South African Constabulary but the KSA medal roll remarks read: “Discharged, Unsuitable” on 31st May 1902.

 

He had served in the E Division South African Constabulary from 13th May to 31st May 1902.
