Description

Queen’s South Africa Medal, 2 bars, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, 180 Corporal J. Brooke, Uitenhage Volunteer Rifles.

Officially impressed: “180 Corpl J. Brooke. Uitenhage V.R.”

Please note, all of the naming is original as issued apart from “J. Brooke” which should actually read “H. Brady”, the name has been neatly erased and re-impressed to read J. Brooke.

J. Brooke is not on the medal roll, maybe an assumed name or alias.

180 Corporal H. Brady of the Uitenhage Volunteer Rifles had previously served in the local Uitenhage Town Guard, the remarks column unusually noting: “Baden Powells Force”.
