Queen’s South Africa Medal, 3 bars, Cape Colony, Tugela Heights, Relief of Ladysmith, 1424 Private H. Wright, Rifle Brigade. Served 2 years in Hong Kong 1894-96.

 

Officially impressed: “1424 Pte H. Wright. Rifle Brigade.”

Confirmed on the medal roll, which note his initial as “H”, his actual named was Thomas.

 

With copy service papers. According to the medal rolls, he was issued with this medal for his service with the 1st Bn Rifle Brigade until mid 1900. He then returned to South Africa with the 4th Bn, and earned the Orange Free State and South Africa 1902 clasp, which would be issued separately later.

 

He unusually returned back to South Africa later with the 4th Battalion, having previously served in SA with the 1st Battalion.

 

Thomas Wright, was born during 1873 in Wandsworth, London. Attested for service on 19th August 1891, aged 18, his profession noted as “Drummer”.

 

He would see the following service: Home, 17th Aug 1891 -13th Oct 1894

Hong Kong, 15th Oct 1894 – 22nd Nov 1896

Singapore, 23rd Nov 1896 – 22nd Feb 1897

Home, 23rd Feb 1897 – 27th Oct 1899

South Africa, 28th October 1899 – 21st July 1900, with 1st Bn Rifle Brigade.

Home, 22nd July 1900.

Returned to South Africa during 1902, returning home on 10th August 1902, this service with 4th Bn Rifle Brigade.
