Territorial Force War Medal, 89184 Pte A.O. Roberts, 5th Bn Middlesex Regiment. 

 

Officially impressed: “89184 Pte A.O. Roberts. Midd’x R.”

 

Roberts also served in the Royal Army Medical Corps, with whom he was awarded the Territorial Efficiency Medal in Army Order 178, May 1919.

 

The roll notes that he had been transferred to the A.P. Corps at that time with number 21851.

 

 

Arthur first went overseas with the 5th Battalion Middlesex Regiment, later joining both the Royal Arm Medical Corps and Royal Army Pay Corps, as well as the Royal Army Veterinary Corps.

 

He was disembodied on 15th March 1919.

 

His WW1 pension card notes he went to Hanwell Street, Anfield St, Liverpool after the war.

 

1921 Census lists him back in his home town of Liverpool, with his wife Annie and 2 Children.

 

Where he worked as a Clerk Shipping Officer (Chartering Clerk) for Christensen and Gardner Ltd Ship Brokers.

 

His wife Annie Griffiths was the daughter of a Master Mariner, Elias Griffiths.

 

Still employed as a Clerk for Ship Brokers during 1939 living in Liverpool.

 

He later died in Liverpool during 1955.
