Queen’s South Afirca, 2 bars, Cape Colony, SA 1902, 39431 Private Wilfred McLean, 135th Company, 30th Battalion, Imperial Yeomanry. 

 

Officially impressed: “39431 Pte W. McLean 135th Coy Imp: Yeo:”

 

Good condition, barely worn, as he died in 1908.

Wilfred McLean, was born in Tadcaster, York, Yorkshire circa 1879.

 

Father, James McLean, Hillside, Tadcaster, Yorks.

 

A 23 year old Labourer who had spent 1 year in the 1st Volunteer Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment before enlistment.

 

Signed up at York with the Imperial Yeomanry on 8th January 1902.

 

He saw the following service:

 

Home, 8th Jan 1902 – 7th May 1902

South Africa, 8th May 1902 – 18th November 1902

Home, 19th Nov 1902 – 25th November 1902.

 

Following his return back home he was discharged “At His Own Request”, his conduct noted as “Very Good”.

He intended to return back home to Tadcaster.

 

Not long afterwards William died in Tadcaster during 1908 at the young age of 29.
