Description

Defence Medal, War Medal, 1953 Coronation, Efficiency Medal, GVI, second award clasp, Major Pamela Wyndham-Tate, treasurer of the Women’s Royal Army Corps Headquarters, Guildford.

 

Swing mounted as worn, Efficiency medal impressed: “Sub. P. R. Wyndham-Tate A.T.S.”

 

Pamela Rosemary Wyndham-Tate was commissioned as a War Substantive Subaltern on 15th April 1944, a 2nd Subaltern since 15th October 1943, and served during WW2 as a Lieut in command of a motor transport platoon in London where the drivers were all Women.

 

Two excellent photos, taken in 1975 at the Women’s Royal Army Corps Headquarters in Guildford circa 1975, when she was interviewed by the Observer.

Sub P. Wyndham Tate to be Junior Commandant, 15th October 1949”

 

London Gazette 16th October 1956:

 

“WOMEN’S ROYAL ARMY CORPS
Regular Army, Short Serv Commn – Capt P. R. Wyndham-Tate (301038) to be Major, 15th October 1956

 

She officially retired to retired pay on 4th April 1973

 

An article in the Observer with several colour photos of her refers to her wartime service, by 1975 she was officially retired but was working as the Curator of the W.R.A.C. Museum.
