Queen’s South Africa, 4 bars, Orange Free State, Transvaal, SA 1901, SA 1902, 7395 Private Alfred Samuel Tricker, 1st Bn Rifle Brigade.

Officially impressed: “7395 Pte A. Tricker. Rifle Brigade”
Original silk ribbon, mounted with a wearing pin for breast war.

Confirmed on the medal roll for the medal with these 4 clasps.

With copy service papers.

Alfred Samuel Tricker, born during 1882 in Holton, Ipswich, Suffolk.

He was a militiaman of the Suffolk Artillery E.D. R.G.A. when he signed on for full time service with the Rifle Brigade, only 1 month after his 18th Birthday during the Boer War on 10th January 1900.

South Africa, 3rd Aug 1901 – 29th Oct 1902
Home, 30th Oct 1902 – 11th April 1904
Malta, 12th Apr 1904 – 24th Oct 1906
Home, 25th October 1906 – 13th August 1918.

Total service 18 years 217 days, and he served through WW1 at home, as such did not earn any WW1 medals, just a Silver War Badge from being invalided in 1918.

During his service in South Africa he fell very ill:

His medical report states the origin of his disability: “3rd March 1902, Climatic, Much debilitated also suffering from dental cavities and dysporea on exertion.
Result of his service and climate.”

“Contracted on active service with the South African Field Fprce, at De Jager’s Drift, Natal, where simple continued fever was prevalent.”

“Has been caused by his service as a soldier.”

“Total incapacity for 3 months, but not at all afterwards.”

He later died in Samford, Suffolk during 1941.
